At Dexter Park, she taught fourth grade until 1971, when she transferred to Butterfield Elementary School in Orange and taught there until her retirement at age 70, in 1972. After graduating from Fitchburg, she was employed in the elementary school system in North Orange and taught there until the new Dexter Park Elementary School was constructed to handle the elementary grades for Orange. She was a woman of immense strength, resilience, and kindness. She attended normal school in Fitchburg where she received her teaching degree and certification. Eileen Bourgault, 69, of Fitchburg, passed away Wednesday morning at home with her family after a courageous battle with cancer. She also taught elementary education in the towns of Orange, North Orange, and the former town of Dana which was evacuated to make way for the Quabbin Reservoir. Her teaching career began in New Salem in a one-room school house with a wood stove. Together, they had three daughters, Marion, Sylvia, and Nyca. Fitchburg Victor ('Vic') Matti Helin, 80, husband of the late Anne M. Crowl of New Salem, and lived for many years on Chestnut Hill in Orange before finally settling in at her home at 84 Walnut Hill. She taught elementary school until the age of 70, when she retired to travel, tend her gardens, read novels, cook, and spend time with her family and friends. She graduated from Barre High School at age 16 and began a lifelong career in teaching. She was born Novemin Barre, a daughter of William and Catherine Neylon, and sister to John, Ted, Daniel, William, Kathryn, and Hazel, all deceased.
